According Straitstimes, plans to reduce the number of Chinese tourists to Taiwan has 3 phases. Phase one started from 20/3 while China is said to have cut the number of tourists to Taiwan by one-third, only 50,000 passengers. Meanwhile the monthly quota is 150,000.
Quotas in the next months will drop to 75,000 passengers and 37,500 respectively from October 10 also estimated that the total number of mainland tourists to visit Taiwan will fall below two million this year.
This action is for one of the sanctions by China as the new leader of Taiwan, Ms. Tsai Ing-wen, has made statements represent the views of the island is not dependent on the Chinese mainland.
